A suspect was arrested in Lachute when police were alerted of a robbery from a parked vehicle.
At around 8 pm on Tuesday, December 10, Sûreté du Québec police officers were informed by a citizen that a man had just committed a theft from a vehicle on rue Moreau and that the suspect had fled on a bicycle. When the police arrived on rue Grace, they noticed that another man was holding the suspect by one arm. The police officers proceeded to arrest the 40-year-old suspect, who is from Lachute. During the intervention, a woman came to see the police officers and told them that the bag that the suspect had in his possession belonged to her. The police officers also recovered stolen items following his arrest.
The police officers noted that the suspect was the same one who had been arrested a few days ago for several similar cases in Lachute, including four thefts from vehicles as well as five attempted thefts from vehicles. For those alleged offences, the suspect had been released from police custody on a promise to appear with conditions.
Following the December 10 incident, the suspect was kept in police custody and was to appear in court on December 12 in Saint-Jérôme.
