It is amazing how quickly we gather things over the years. These become memories that are in our heart. Making decisions on what to keep or pass on, is hard when those decisions have memories attached to them. Many of us feel overwhelmed and very emotional and wonder how we start going through our possessions, let alone make the decision to keep or give away/sell some of them.
Do you love the piece? If not, then pass it along to someone that would smile when they see it.
I have started a couple of new family traditions that are very meaningful to my family, while at the same time, helping me to pass on special things.
- For old photos, I gather about 10 or so photos of my son over the years. I tie it up with a nice ribbon and give it to him as part of his birthday or Christmas gift. I thought this was an easier way to pass on the cherished photos, without dropping off boxes and boxes of them. And I am sure he appreciates me not doing that!
- For special Christmas family ornaments – I select one or two each Christmas that are very special to us as a family and pass it on to him and his wife. In effect, I am passing down our traditions and this makes me very happy.
Count your blessings everyday…not just the holidays!
Most of us tune into the blessings of our lives during the holidays and at special celebrations. And that is ok. But what if we tuned in to our blessings each day, instead of a few times a year? Just imagine how our lives would change!
Blessings appear in many ways. They come in the form of special people in our lives, our pets, our health, our home, nature around us, our personal and professional lives, goals and everything in between. Isn’t Christmas the best time to begin to count your blessings? Why not do it and see how your life will change. You will change your heart, mind and soul.
Memories, traditions and blessings are the best gift that you can give yourself and others.
Be present. Be blessed.
Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays from my home to yours,
Sue
