Originally announced in November 2022 by the Ontario government and Enbridge, the project aims to supply the community of Chute-à-Blondeau with affordable natural gas. Enbridge recently announced that there will be a third virtual information session for residents from October 16 to November 15, 2024.
Changes to the project’s proposed construction include an updated project study area, a new preferred reinforcement portion, and other minor enhancements.
The gas project’s environmental study will be conducted by Stantec Consulting Ltd. As part of the continued planning process, Stantec will be responsible for fulfilling the requirements of the Ontario Energy Board’s (OEB) environmental guidelines for hydrocarbon projects. The environmental process previously engaged in consultation with landowners, Indigenous communities, and government agencies.
The environmental study process is anticipated to be completed in the first quarter of 2025. Following OEB approval, construction is predicted to commence in the second quarter of 2026.
Further community feedback and input will be considered and used to develop site-specific environmental protection and mitigation measures.
