In a recent motion, the Township of North Glengarry’s council members unanimously voted in favour of honouring long-time Roads Department employee Jean-Guy Levert with a dedicated plaque in Alexandria.

As the former Roads Superintendent for Alexandria, then the Township of North Glengarry, Levert always supported his community and its activities, most notably the annual tree lighting event. The tree lighting typically occurs on the last Friday of November or the first Friday in December. The plaque would be installed near the tree in Mill Square to celebrate his unending support.

“I think this would be a wonderful tribute to a wonderful man. He was well-loved by everybody,” said Deputy Mayor Carma Williams at the meeting on September 30.

The current design will be shared with the Arts, Culture and Heritage Committee members for review before being fabricated. It includes a summary in French and English of Levert’s community contributions and would be able to be moved to accommodate the tree’s growth.
