An Embrun resident is facing a series of charges after being arrested following a police investigation of a threat involving a firearm.

On September 16, 2024, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a complaint of a threat involving a firearm in Embrun. The Russell County and Hawkesbury OPP crime units, assisted by the OPP Emergency Response Team, OPP K-9, the Repeat Offender Parole Enforcement Unit, OPP Forensic Identification Services, the Provincial Weapons Enforcement Unit and patrol officers were involved in the investigation leading to the arrest of an individual. Officers also seized a 12 Gauge shotgun with a sawed-off barrel and ammunition.

As a result, a 28-year-old, from Embrun, Ontario, was charged under the Criminal Code (CC) with:

  • Possession of a Weapon for Dangerous Purpose – CC
  • Possession of a loaded and prohibited or restricted firearm – CC
  • Careless Use of a Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited device or Ammunition – CC
  • Utter Threats – Cause death or Bodily Harm – CC 3 Counts
  • Utter Threats – Damage of Injure Animal – CC
  • Possession of Firearm or Ammunition contrary to Prohibition Order – CC 2 Counts

The accused was held in custody awaiting a bail hearing.
