To fill the vacant councillor seat left by Mike Tarnowski, who was sworn in as Mayor on May 27, 2024, Russell Township has scheduled a by-election.
Mayor Tarnowski replaced Pierre Leroux, who had resigned to become the Chief Administrative Officer with The Nation municipality. The winner of the open seat will stay on for the remainder of the 2022-2026 term that ends on November 14, 2026.
The election will take place on September 26 at 9:00 am, and polls close on September 30 at 8:00 pm through internet and telephone voting. Eligible and registered voters will receive an access PIN through first-class mail in a personalized and sealed envelope. Those individuals wishing to vote who have not received this letter by September 23 are strongly encouraged to contact the clerk department at 613-443-3066 or via their email, [email protected].
To encourage voting in retirement communities, an election official will be present at three retirement homes on September 30, comprising of Résidence Servant from 9:00 am to 10:00 am, Le Pavillon from 10:00 am until noon, and lastly Russell Meadows from 1:00 pm to 3:30 pm.

If voters require any assistance during the by-election, they are encouraged to visit the Voter Help Centre, held at Town Hall. Hours for the centre are September 26-27 from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, 28-29 from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm, and 30 from 9:00 am to 8:00 pm. Please ensure that voters accessing this service bring proper identification with your name and home address.
Final results of the by-election will be announced at Town Hall in Embrun at 1:00 pm on October 4, 2024.
