The Township of North Glengarry has reached a tentative agreement with SEIU Local 2 of the Brewery General and Professional Workers’ Union (SEIU) which represents recreation staff at the township.
The township and SEIU successfully completed negotiations on September 3 by agreeing to the terms of a three-year collective agreement. The last collective agreement with SEIU expired on March 31, 2024 and negotiations had been ongoing since late 2023. The terms of the agreement are pending ratification and acceptance by both sides.
Unionized recreation staff resumed their duties on September 4. The ice making process was started in both the Glengarry Sports Palace and the Maxville and District Sports Complex with a goal of offering ice rentals as of September 16, 2024. Administrative staff will be contacting users to reconfirm the timing of their bookings in the township’s facilities.
“We look forward to having the recreation staff back to work in our facilities,” said Mayor Jamie MacDonald.
As of Sunday, September 8, the ice had been installed at both the Glengarry Sports Palace and the Maxville and District Sports Complex.
