On Friday, September 13, eat a steak and help Make-A-Wish!
Don Dubois of Vankleek Hill is organizing his annual Charity Steak Night for Make-A-Wish Canada. Proceeds from this event will help to create life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses.
Dubois is hoping to raise at least $3,000 for Make-A-Wish at the event, which will be held at the Windsor Tavern in Vankleek Hill, which is already known for its Friday steak dinners. Dubois said a series of special presentations will be made during the evening. He also plans to pay tribute to the late Brian Mulroney. In a conversation between Dubois and Mulroney many years ago, the former Prime Minister inspired Dubois to embark upon his work of fundraising for various charitable organizations. Dubois said he was again inspired by that conversation when he heard a eulogy delivered at Mulroney’s funeral on March 23, 2024.
Raffles and a silent auction are also part of the September 13 event.
Dubois estimates he has helped raise $100,000 for charities including the former Derrick’s Pancake Day, Ukrainian resettlement, a cat rescue, and the Montréal Shriner’s Hospital.
Radio personalities Frank Cavallaro and Kris Leblanc from Lite 106.7 FM will be attending the September 13 event, along with representatives of the federal, provincial, and municipal levels of government. Dr. Who fans are also planning to participate and there is a possibility a Dalek will make an appearance.
And, it’s never a party in Vankleek Hill without 50 Proof. The well-known local band will also perform at the fundraiser.
The Charity Steak Night for Make-A-Wish Canada takes place from 8 pm to midnight on Friday, September 13. The cost is $22.50 per person. To reserve, call the Windsor Tavern any day after 2 pm at 613-678-2122.
