The corn was boiling, the ice cream was churning, and the audience was tapping their feet on Sunday, August 25 at the Macdonell-Williamson House in Pointe-Fortune.
The event was the Friends of the Macdonell-Williamson House’s Grand Finalé for its 2024 season. The house, which was built in 1817, was the home of Northwest Company trader John Macdonell and his family, and then William Williamson and his family until 1961 when the property was expropriated for the construction of the Carillon Dam. The Ontario Heritage Trust, an agency of the Government of Ontario, has owned the house since 1978. The Friends of the Macdonell-Williamson House operate the site as a museum, which is open on Saturdays and Sundays each July and August. Special events are also held on weekends, and there is a tearoom and general store inside the house for visitors to enjoy.
At the Grand Finalé, there was plenty of corn-on-the-cob and homemade ice cream for visitors to enjoy while Martin Otis and Le Grand Portage entertained.
