Do you like to sing? Come and explore a variety of choral music, with like-minded neighbours, as part of the new choral ensemble in your community, the Chorale ACCORD Choir!

Building on the legacy of Rosemary Harden, the ACCORD Choir is the new configuration of the former Acquire and Champlain choirs. Most recently, the group presented excellent concerts of the Mozart and Fauré Requiems, and also has performed at community fundraisers. Rose has now “passed the baton” on to her friend and colleague, Linda Crawford. Linda brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in vocal and choral music to the group. She currently is the Artistic Director of the All Voices Community Choir with over 140 singers of all ages, based in Kanata.

The new name, Chorale ACCORD Choir, reflects the spirit of collaboration and enthusiasm of the ensemble. The new name also permits the group to apply for not-for-profit status. The group has members from all across Eastern Ontario: Cornwall, Alexandria, Vankleek Hill, Hawkesbury…

The Chorale ACCORD Choir will launch rehearsals on Tuesdays, beginning September 17, at 7 pm, at Centre culturel Le Chenail, 2 John Street, in Hawkesbury. It will first prepare a programme of winter and Christmas music for December. Two performances are planned. The repertoire will be very diverse, and will include folk, traditional, gospel, classical, and contemporary pieces, in four-part harmony.

ACCORD offers the opportunity to make music, build new friendships, and develop musicianship. The choir fosters the many social, physical and mental benefits of a vibrant choral experience. It is not necessary to know how to read music. Nor are there any auditions. All voices are welcome to come out and try. Singers will learn the music together in a friendly and inclusive environment, and there are digital learning tracks available for home practice. Tenors and basses are especially welcome!

The cost for participation in this community activity is very reasonable: $150 per semester (September through December). This fee includes the use of all the sheet music and all rehearsal expenses.

The first rehearsal, on Tuesday, September 17, is a risk-free rehearsal! Come over to Le Chenail, in Hawkesbury, and try out the ACCORD choir. You will discover a friendly group of music-lovers!
