Take a walk up to the grounds of St. John’s Anglican Church in Vankleek Hill on Saturday, August 17 for the 2024 edition of Art in the Garden. A variety of artists and artisans will be displaying and selling their work.
Art in the Garden not only helps promote artists and their work, but is also a fundraiser for St. John’s church, which is part of the Anglican Parish of the Lower Ottawa Valley.
The fundraiser began in 2021 as a result of the efforts of St. John’s parishioners Randal Storey and France P. They wanted to help celebrate Vankleek Hill’s 175th anniversary and create a fundraiser for the church during what was a challenging time. They formed a committee and established another amazing annual event that was added to Vankleek Hill’s roster.
According to Art in the Garden Chair Storey, Art in the Garden 2024 promises to be even more impressive than in prior years. This year’s event has over 60 artists of all sorts of genres, from textile, to metal, glass to canvas.
“Artists are coming from Montréal to Perth to enjoy this beautiful setting of St John’s and the Higginson Tower. We will have live painting classes with Shanna Steals, wood carving demonstrations by Gerdine Van Woudenberg and an impressive display of local talents in the church as we host the Vankleek Hill Quilting Guild,” Storey said.
From the kitchen in the parish hall, there will be a cafe of home-made goodies and boxed picnic lunches for only $10. Organizers are planning Art in the Garden 2024 to complement the Vankleek Hill Fair and draw even more visitors to town.
Art in the Garden takes place from 10 am to 4 pm on Saturday, August 17 on the lawn and along the lane in front of St. John’s Anglican Church off Highway 34 in Vankleek Hill. The rain date is Sunday, August 18.
