The Centre d’art d’Argenteuil in Lachute is presenting the Fragments exhibition featuring the work of artist Suzanne de Carufel, and the Mon combat pour Ukraine exhibition with the art of Jean Kazemirchuk from August 3 to September 15.
Suzanne de Carufel described the significance of her work and exhibition;
“Bits of life…in colors and textures, also embodied in objects and words, important, determining, full of memories, evocative, triggering, a little of what has been until now day.
Jumbled and thrown without restraint, for the pleasure of remembering, of evoking and of saying, of bringing a little poetry and touching the fantasy.
Wanting a little more intimate sharing.
Through the “Fragments” series, the bits of life told are truly told in a playful approach, wanting to tell and have fun with them.
For paintings, freely use different mediums and techniques, draw, paint, scratch, sand, come back with a line of
pencil, charcoal shadow, pigments applied to the fingers.
For the “Bottles in the Sea” sculpture objects, assemble pieces, salvaged objects and collections.
Overall, take your time and have fun.
In this jumble, there is a call to revive memory, to explore memories and to bring moments of sweetness back to the canvas, of love and other more personal ones. There are also references, impressions and colors which are real borrowings from Guadeloupe, a place that I cherish and which has been my home for several years.”
The vernissage for Fragments is on August 3 from 1 pm to 4 pm.
Kazemirchuk reflected on his exhibition.
“February 20, 2014, annexation of Crimea by Russia. February 24, 2022, Putin’s second attack on Ukraine. I am concerned, I am touched, I suffer and I decide to act. It is through art that I undertake to communicate my dismay and my anger. Nine days after the attack, I printed a first engraving. More followed in 2022 and 2023 of 20 engravings testifying to my disgust at the barbaric acts of the Russian army. In 2024, I am producing a second series offering a look at Ukraine before the conflict. For before the destruction there were cities, villages, countryside where life was good; because behind the overwhelmed faces, there were people who, like everyone else peacetime, love, laugh and work.”
The Mon combat pour Ukraine vernissage is also on August 3 from 1 pm to 4 pm. The Centre d’art d’Argenteuil is located at 585 rue Principale in Lachute.
