Three women in the Vankleek Hill area have done their part to offer some comfort to children under the care of the child and family services agency in Stormont-Dundas, and Glengarry.

Sylvie Potts, her sister Rollande Allen, and Murielle Lanteigne-Whissell have made and contributed about 300 quilts to the Children’s Aid Society of Stormont-Dundas, and Glengarry (CASSDG).

Potts said they began making quilts about 10 years ago to donate to various agencies and in the past, have also made them for Valoris, the child and family services agency serving Prescott-Russell.

CASSDG will give the quilts to children under their care.

The quilt donations began when the daughter of Rollande, adopted twins from foster care, which is administered by the children’s aid society.

“That’s what got her started,” Potts said.

“This is very close to us, the foster kids,” she added.

The three quilters have also contributed quilts in the past for raffles and other community groups.

“We just love quilting,” Potts said.

Making a lot of quilts requires a lot of fabric. Anyone who has clean fabric in good condition they would like to contribute for the quilts may contact Rollande Allen at 613-678-2748.
