The Collectif’s Second Juried Show
The Glengarry Artists’ Collective exhibits again at the Glengarry Nor’Wester & Loyalist Museum at 19651 John Street, Williamstown from May 24 to June 30. The show launches with a free Wine & cheese vernissage, Friday May 24 from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm. Visitors are encouraged to vote for their favourites for the People’s Choice Award.
Why an art exhibition with a jury? It’s a challenge to work at a higher level because we’re competing. Being chosen is a plus for the artistic CV. It’s a chance for recognition and this intrigues viewers. Dang, it’s just fun! A juried show can also be an emotional rollercoaster. Jurors’ choices are subjective – works that fail in one show may win in another! Artists need to develop thick skin!
Our two jurors will each select one Juror’s Choice, then they must agree on Best in Show. They’ll be judging out of 10:
- 3 points for technical mastery
- 3 points for composition
- 4 points for creativity/originality
Jurors:
Tracy-Lynn Chisholm is a professional artist based in Cornwall, Ontario. She’s a self-trained self-starter who registered her first artisanal business in 1995. She opened her first public art space, Serenity Studio, in 2001. Chisholm partnered with Emily MacLeod in 2012 establishing OBO Studios (Our Beautiful Obsession). In 2018 they opened the Cline House Gallery.
Throughout the past 29 years she has refined her skills as professional artist, instructor, curator, entrepreneur & community leader in the arts.
Cynthia Gatien has painted for close to 40 years. Starting as The Fabulous Floorcloth Company with shows in Toronto, Boston, New York, Connecticut. Painting on canvas was a natural progression. Fast forward to 2001. Cynthia focused on “fine art”, participating in The Artist Project, Art Expo, many Art in the Park‘s in Toronto. Always improving but also experimenting: Landscape; Whimsical art–often with animals; California figurative.
Cynthia is self-taught. She’s very disciplined — sets goals, reaches them, sets new ones. “I make art that makes me happy. That feeling is usually transferred to the viewer. Can’t imagine a better life.”
