The city of Lachute is going ahead with $39,960 in engineering work for the ongoing project to convert the former United Church building into the new public library.

On Monday, May 6, council granted a contract for stormwater drainage work at the site Laurence Inc. for $26,100 plus taxes. A contract costing $13,860 plus taxes was also granted to Martin Roy et Associés for mechanical and electrical engineering work on the building.

Lachute council has also awarded a contract for additional engineering costs associated with the extension of three streets in the southern part of the urban area of the city. On May 6, the contract was awarded to Groupe Civitas for design concept work including streets, stormwater management, and sewers for extensions of avenue Lorraine, avenue Barron, and rue Mary at a cost of $33,187 plus taxes.

The city of Lachute wants the Québec government to address safety concerns on two sections of provincial highways within city limits.

On May 6, council approved a request to the Ministère des transports to reduce the speed limit on Route 329 between the north limit of Lachute and chemin Hartland. The speed limit in the area is currently 90 kilometres per hour but the city would like it reduced for improved safety at the chemin  Hartland intersection.

Council also approved another request to the Ministère des transports that concerns about wildlife hazards be addressed on Route 327 (avenue de la Providence) between rue Bélanger and rue des Franciscans. The city has received many complaints about wildlife being a risk to road safety in the area. The city is requesting the transportation ministry to examine the situation and consider possible solutions.
