A major brush and forest fire in The Nation Municipality on Saturday, March 30 and dry conditions has led to outdoor burning bans being announced in three Prescott-Russell municipalities.

The brush and forest fire covered more than 30 acres. Firefighters from L’Orignal, Vankleek Hill, Alfred and Plantagenet, and Clarence-Rockland assisted The Nation fire department with extinguishing the fire. The Casselman fire department covered The Nation’s other calls while it was fully occupied with the brush fire.

The fire bans in The Nation Municipality, the City of Clarence-Rockland, and Russell Township took effect on Sunday, March 31.

All outdoor burning, including backyard campfires, and fires for residents who already have burning permits, are prohibited until further notice.

A lack of precipitation during the winter and so far, this spring has led to dry grass and leaves on the ground.
