The owner of the non-operating Kilmar cement plant in Grenville-sur-la-Rouge is reconsidering the future of the facility.

German conglomerate Heidelberg Materials has owned the Kilmar Terminal since 2018 when it acquired the plant from Colacem. Cement production ceased at the site in 2019. Since that time, Heidelberg had used the facility for storage and distribution associated with its Picton plant in Prince Edward County, Ontario. But that role has ended, according to Heidelberg Director of Corporate Communications for North America Jeff Sieg.

“However, we have discontinued using the Kilmar facility for these purposes. We are currently evaluating our options for the future of this site,” Sieg said.

He did not say if the plant would return to production, remain idle, or be demolished.

Recently, the Heidelberg Materials Kilmar Terminal in Grenville-sur-la-Rouge has been used for an unspecified film or television production.
