The Hawkesbury Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is currently investigating an attempted motor vehicle theft that occurred in broad daylight in the town of Hawkesbury.

On March 2, 2024, at approximately 4:00 p.m., a family came home to three males attempting to steal their 2023 Toyota Tacoma from the driveway. The residents confronted the suspects, who then fled the scene on foot, and are believed to have left the area in a red sedan.

The suspects are described as black males in their early twenties wearing all black clothing.

Anyone with information regarding this investigation is asked to contact the Hawkesbury OPP at 1-888-310-1122. Should you wish to remain anonymous, you may call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222- 8477 (TIPS), where you may be eligible to receive a cash reward of up to $2,000.

The investigation is ongoing, and officers are working on any leads they may have.

Police are urging citizens to take preventative measures to protect their vehicles and vehicle contents from theft.

You can help prevent theft by following some crime prevention tips:

·           Always roll up your vehicle’s windows, lock the doors and pocket the key.

·           If you have a garage, use it and lock the door as well as your vehicle.

·           Park other vehicles behind your high value vehicle to act as a deterrent to thieves.

·           Install an aftermarket anti-theft device in your vehicle in a location not easily visible.

·           Install a third-party GPS tracking device in the vehicle.

·           Keep your vehicle key fobs in a Faraday Box.

·           Never leave your vehicle unattended while it is running.
