As of Wednesday, February 28, half-load restrictions are in effect in municipalities across the United Counties of Prescott and Russell (UCPR).
The restrictions are meant to preserve pavement surfaces and road grades during the late winter/early spring season when thawing and heavy rain make the ground soft.
A limit of five tonnes per axle will apply in the following municipalities:
Champlain Township
Town of Hawkesbury
Russell Township
City of Clarence-Rockland
Half-load restrictions take effect on Friday, March 1 in East Hawkesbury.
Full loads will still be allowed on provincial highways and some UCPR county roads. Those roads are:
- County Road 2
- County Road 7
- County Road 9
- County Road 10
- County Road 14
- County Road 17
- County Road 19
- County Road 31
- Highway 34
- Highway 417
Exemptions to half-load limits are available from the UCPR for certain roads. Information and application forms are available at https://en.prescott-russell.on.ca/stay/public_works/road_maintenance/permits_and_municipal_consent .
