Brown bin compost collection in Grenville-sur-la-Rouge begins on Thursday, February 29.

The bins have recently been delivered to homes across the municipality.

To ensure efficient and safe collection, the following rules must be observed:

  1. Only the compliant brown bins that were distributed will be collected.
  2. Bins must contain only accepted materials. Those materials are Green or damp matter (leftover fruits and vegetables, eggshells, fresh grass clippings), and brown or dry matter (dried leaves, hay, coffee grounds (including filters) and tea bags, napkins, pasta, kernels, rice, bread, walnut husks)
  3. The bin must be easy to access for collection personnel and be placed at the edge of the entrance to the property.

The cost of implementing the brown bins in Grenville-sur-la-Rouge is $100 per household and was added to residential tax bills in the 2024 municipal budget. The implementation of the brown bin program is also being aided by a $73,964 external grant.

On February 13, Grenville-sur-la-Rouge council awarded the contract for the disposal of organic brown bin materials to Mironor for $67.50 plus sales tax per metric tonne. The Mironor tender was one of three the municipality received.
