There were 21 fewer building permits issued in North Glengarry in 2023 than in 2022. Building permits are issued and required by law for new construction of buildings, additions and renovations to existing buildings, and for when property owners add structures such as decks and swimming pools. Building permits and inspections are necessary to ensure structures are safe and comply with the Ontario Building Code.

According to a report from the North Glengarry Building, By-law, and Planning Department contained in the 2024 municipal budget, 229 building permits were issued by the township in 2023. In 2022, 250 permits were issued. The department is also responsible for issuing septic tank installation permits. In 2023, 21 permits were issued, down from 39 permits in 2022.

The number of building and septic site inspections performed by North Glengarry’s licensed building inspectors in 2023 also decreased to 639 from 816 in 2022.

Building permit fees accounted for $156,358 of North Glengarry’s municipal revenue in 2023. The amount of building permit revenue for the township in 2022 was $227,856.30.
