Changes to zoning and the possibility of new residential development in Grenville have been adopted by village council.
On Monday, February 5, a zoning regulation was adopted on second reading which changes the zoning on vacant land northeast of the residential subdivision on 1e avenue, 2e avenue, and Rue McIntyre from R-100 zoning to R-114 and R-115 zoning. The R-114 and R-115 designations allow for multi-family dwellings to be constructed on that land. Council also gave final adoption to a regulation which will establish conditions for the municipality to issue a construction permit for the land where the zoning has been changed. Izomax Construction Inc. of Montréal is the developer associated with the property, but there is currently no indication of when the company may decide to build homes on the vacant land in Grenville.
Both the zoning regulation and building permit regulations were subjected to a required public consultation before the regular council meeting began on February 5, but there were no questions raised by council or members of the public.
Food bank fundraiser
During the reports from council members, Councillor Louis-André Desjardins, who acts as the village representative to the Grenville Food Bank, said a fundraising dinner held for the facility in December 2023 raised $1,000.
“The people were very generous,” remarked Desjardins.

Director-General and Treasurer Alain Léveillé congratulated Mayor Pierre Thauvette for 30 years as an elected official in Grenville. Thauvette began his service as a councillor and became mayor in 2018. He was re-elected in 2021.
