February is Black History Month, the Champlain Library is proud to contribute to the celebration and promotion of Black culture heritage, and achievement.

If books are your thing, we invite you to come explore our collection on display, including Willie: The Game-Changing Story of the NHL’s First Black Player, Goodreads Award Winner The Vanishing Half by Brit Bennett & the young adult mystery The Black Queen by Jumata Emill. If you’d rather read online or listen to audiobooks, the library offers access to a wide range of Black-authored books through the Libby app’s Black History Month: Celebration and Reflection collection.

Film enthusiasts can delve into Black history through the National Film Board’s curated content, Black Communities in Canada: A Rich History or the streaming service Kanopy, where a selection of thought-provoking films is available for online viewing. If you prefer your culture bite-sized you can always browse these short films.

We hope you join us in commemorating and reflecting on Black History and enjoying their many contributions to our social fabric.
