During the week of October 31 to November 6, 2022, officers with the Russell County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to more than 300 calls for service. These included:

Shoplifting

On November 3, 2022, shortly before 2:30 p.m., Russell County OPP officers responded to a shoplifting complaint at a local business on St-Guillaume Road in Russell Township.

During the investigation, it was determined that an individual was in possession of a stolen item.

As a result of the investigation, a 41-year-old male, from Vars, was charged with:

  • Theft under $5,000 – Shoplifting CC 334(b)
  • Being intoxicated in public place LLCA 31(1)(a)

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in L’Orignal at a later date.

Three motorists charged with impaired driving

On November 2, 2022, at approximately 11:15 p.m., a Russell County OPP officer stopped a driver for a traffic related offence on Castor Street in Russell.

During the investigation, the officer utilized an Approved Screening Device (ASD). The driver was arrested and transported to detachment for further testing.

A 36-year-old male, from Russell, was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol CC 320.14(1)(a)
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) CC 320.14(1)(b)

On November 4, 2022, at approximately 7:45 p.m., Russell County OPP officers responded to a two-vehicle collision on Notre-Dame Street in Embrun. There were no injuries.

During the investigation, the officer utilized an ASD. The driver was arrested and transported to detachment for further testing.

A 20-year-old, from Orleans, was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) CC 320.14(1)(b)
  • Fail to surrender insurance card CAIA 3(1)
  • Driver fail to surrender licence HTA 33(1)
  • Turn – not in safety HTA 142(1)
  • Novice driver – B.A.C. above zero HTA 44.1(3)

On November 5, 2022, at approximately 12:30 p.m., Russell County OPP officers responded to a traffic complaint on Richer Circle in Casselman.

During the investigation, the motorist was arrested and transported to detachment for further testing.

A 64-year-old man, from Crysler, was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) CC 320.14(1)(b)
  • Operation while impaired – alcohol CC 320.14(1)(a)

The motorists received a 90-day driver’s license suspension, and the vehicles were also impounded for seven days.

The accused are scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in L’Orignal at a later date.
