There will be no need to drive to Ottawa or Montréal to visit a comedy club on Saturday, August 27, as the Windsor Tavern presents the Ted Bird and Friends Comedy Show, featuring multi-time Just For Laughs veteran Joey Elias.

The Montréal comedian, who has appeared in 12 Just For Laughs festivals in his home city, began doing comedy in 1992 after losing a pool hall bet to his friend. Elias has also appeared in his own Canadian National TV special Comedy Now. From Oprah to body piercing, his outlandish views have earned him critically acclaimed appearances on Global TV’s The Best of Montréal, the Wesley Snipes film The Art of War, and George Clooney’s Confessions of a Dangerous Mind.

The event is being held outdoors under the event tent and outdoor patio at the rear of the Windsor Tavern and funds raised will be donated towards breast cancer research. There will also be multiple raffle prizes throughout the evening. Tickets for the August 27 comedy show are $50, including both the show and a chicken and ribs dinner, and can be booked by calling the Windsor at 613-678-2122.

Montréal-based radio personality Ted Bird – himself a veteran of the city’s comedy circuit – is the host of the show. The current host of Hudson’s Lite 106.7 FM’s morning show, Bird is also famous for forming a morning show duo with Terry DiMonte for many years on CHOM-FM 97.7 in Montréal.

“In the last 10 years, besides his radio gig, Ted has become a staple in our comedy community for fundraising,” says Ken Doran, of Charity Promotions in Montréal, which is organizing the event.

Joining Elias and Bird for the event will be two young up and coming comics, Leonard Yelle, and Jacy Lafontaine, from Cornwall.

“It’s going to be a fun, fun night,” Doran enthuses. “You’ve got some old veterans and comedy out of Montréal – the staples, as we call it.”
