Two property owners have taken the phrase “Put your money where your mouth is” to heart.

They are giving $200,000 to Champlain Township to pave 1.5 kilometres of Ridge Road near Vankleek Hill. The portion being paid for by the two property owners will connect with the 1.9-kilometre portion being paved by Champlain Township, which is paving Ridge Road from Highway 34 as far as the Vankleek Hill Livestock property.

Champlain Township Mayor Normand Riopel, who has been a municipal politician for decades, says he has never seen anything like it. Likewise, veteran municipal politician and Champlain councillor Gerry Miner said he has never seen a donation of this size being made to a municipality by private citizens for road paving.

The work will take place this summer, says Riopel.
