Vankleek Hill’s sea of tulips was a big hit on its opening weekend, with hundreds of visitors coming out to see and pick the colourful flowers at the new Vankleek Hill Tulip Fields.

“Saturday was fantastic,” said Sandra Bebbington-Block, who owns the u-pick tulip operation with her husband Mike Block.

Despite the rainy weather on Sunday and threat of thunderstorms, the site at 199 Main Street was still bustling with visitors.

“We were pleasantly surprised with the turnout,” Bebbington-Block said. “People honored their tickets and we had a lot of walk-ups.”

Many local residents visted to the tulip field, as well as visitors from Montreal, Ottawa, Québec City and New York State.

“The people we’re bringing in from out of town I think is tremendous for Vankleek Hill,” said Mike Block.

The Vankleek Hill Tulip Fields will remain open all this week and throughout next weekend. After that will depend on the weather.
