More details and dates are available on plans to replace the ice surface floor at the Vankleek Hill Community Centre.
According to Township of Champlain Communication Specialist Zoé Fortin-Larocque, the arena and reception hall will be closed for the 2022-23 season and will reopen for the 2023-2024 season. The closure period will be from September 2022 to August 2023.
The Township of Champlain has secured federal and provincial funding for building upgrades and ice surface floor replacement. The amount has not yet been disclosed, as the agreement is still being finalized.
The township is seeking the services of a qualified firm to complete the detailed design and project management during construction. The proposed term of the contract requires design and acceptance of the plans and preparation of the construction tender by June 30. The construction tender is to be awarded on August 11, for a construction period from August 29, 2022, to August 25, 2023.
A summary of the work to be done in the rink area itself includes a new arena ice surface floor with refrigeration piping under the surface, new rink boards and safety netting, reconfiguration of benches and timekeeping box, new intake fans, and replacement of the doors leading to the ice area.
Planned renovations to the community centre building include roof repairs, painting and wall repairs, new entry doors, new rubber flooring, reconfiguration of restrooms, and making bleacher access compliant with accessibility regulations.
