At its regular February meeting, Champlain Council proclaimed 2022 as the Year of the Garden, in celebration of the contribution of gardens and gardening to the development of our country, our municipality and the lives of our citizens in terms of health, quality of life and environmental challenges. Champlain Township is committed to be a Garden Friendly municipality supporting the development of its garden culture and is proud to have history, heritage and diversity of gardens.

With the help of Founding Partners: the Canadian Nursery Landscape Association, Québec Vert, the Canadian Ornamental Horticulture Alliance, Garden Centres Canada, the Canadian Society of Landscape Architects, and Communities in Bloom, and Founding Sponsors: Scotts Canada, Premier Tech, and Proven Winners, the Year of the Garden 2022 was proclaimed by the Canadian Garden Council to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of Ornamental Horticulture in Canada.

Gardens and gardening have greatly helped us face the challenges of the COVID pandemic and make it possible to view the recovery with optimism. The Year of the Garden 2022 will be an opportunity for new and seasoned garden and gardening enthusiasts, families, schools, and tourists alike to go out into their own garden, visit a public garden, an urban park or garden centre, participate in a garden activity or even a festival to stimulate and increase their garden and gardening passion.

Saturday before Father’s Day, National Garden Day, June 18 in, 2022, is recognized as Garden Day in Champlain Township as a legacy of Canada’s Year of the Garden 2022.
