During the week of January 31 to February 6, officers with the Russell County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to more than 270 calls for service. These included:

Stunt driving on 417

On February 5, at approximately 10:15 a.m., a Russell County OPP officer was conducting stationary radar enforcement on Highway 417 Westbound near the Vars exit. The officer observed a vehicle travelling at an excessive rate of speed and obtained a speed reading of 150 km/h in a posted speed limit of 110 km/h.

As a result of the investigation, a 25-year-old, from Ajax, Ontario was charged with:

  • Race a motor vehicle – Excessive Speed HTA 172(1)

The motorist’s driver’s license was suspended for 30 days and the vehicle was impounded for 14 days.

Mischief charge laid in Embrun

On February 6, shortly after 12:15 p.m., Russell County OPP officers responded to a disturbance on St-Malo Place in Embrun.

During the investigation, it was determined that an altercation occurred between two adults.

As a result of the investigation, a 39-year-old, from Ottawa, was charged with:

  • Mischief – Domestic CC 430(4)

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in L’Orignal at a later date.
