The Champlain Library is encouraging young readers with a Grade 3 to 6 reading level to participate in the Silver Birch Fiction Award Program through the Forest of Reading. The Forest of Reading is Canada’s largest recreational reading program with more than 270,000 readers taking part every year through schools, public libraries, literacy centres and at home.

The Silver Birch Fiction Award is one of the Forest of Reading’s most popular award programs – this is the one that started it all. From fantastical, fun titles to serious, life-learning tales, this program provides a variety of stories for readers to enjoy.

Ten books have been nominated for this year’s Silver Birch Fiction Award: ‘The Fabulous Zed Watson’, ‘Elvis, Me, and the Lemonade Stand Summer’, ‘No Vacancy’ and ‘ParaNorthern and the Chaos Bunny A-Hop-Calypse’ are just four of the ten books nominated.

Readers can participate in numerous activities, including scavenger hunts, contests, activity sheets, letters to authors and more. This is a great way for kids to have fun and to vote on their favourite titles with other children across the country.

Sign up and join the reading fun full of resources and voting opportunities. Register with the Champlain Library or search the library’s catalogue to reserve your copy by visiting bc-cl.ca.  For more information about the Forest of Reading Programs visit Forest of Reading.
