Suspended driver found with drugs and prohibited weapon in Lachute

Police seized a weapon and illegal drugs after pursuing a suspect in Lachute during the early hours of Friday, November 19. 

Shortly before 2 a.m., the Sûreté du Québec attempted to stop a vehicle for a road safety check on rue Principale. The police car made a U-turn to intercept the vehicle, but it then accelerated its speed and turned onto rue Barron and rue Berry. Police later located the vehicle in the parking lot of a business on rue Principale, but the driver was no longer there. While the police were carrying out checks to determine who owned the vehicle, the driver exited the store and met the police. The police informed the driver his licence was suspended Police also found methamphetamine pills and a prohibited weapon in the vehicle. 

 A 42-year-old man from Lachute was arrested and released on warning. He will appear in court at a later date in Saint-Jérôme regarding the discovery of the methamphetamine and prohibited weapon.  

The suspect also received fines totaling $ 1,088 for driving a vehicle while under sanction and for obstructing the action of a peace officer. His vehicle was seized for a period of 30 days.
