The 2021 regional meeting season is fast approaching for Ontario Federation of Agriculture (OFA) members across the province. Once again, due to COVID-19 restrictions on in-person events, the OFA is conducting this year’s regional meetings in a virtual format.
OFA regional meetings offer the opportunity for members to engage in discussions about the issues and priorities impacting the agriculture and food industry. as well as allowing for networking with county federation directors and fellow members, while supporting the local agricultural community. The event also includes elections for delegates and alternates to OFA’s Annual General Meeting and Policy Advisory Council (PAC) members.
The PAC is an elected body of OFA members who meet approximately four times a year. They provide grassroots input on key issues, as well as policy direction. These positions will be representing their respective counties at OFA’s virtual annual meeting on November 22, 2021. These opportunities allow members to get involved in OFA’s work at a provincial level, bringing concerns, suggestions and leadership to provincial discussions.
For the counties of Prescott, Russell and Glengarry, the regional meetings are held in conjunction with their Annual General Meetings. Stormont county holds their regional meeting in conjunction with their monthly meeting in October, separate from their AGM. The dates for these meetings are as follows:
Glengarry: September 9 at 8 p.m.
Russell: September 14 at 8 p.m.
Stormont: October 20 at 8 p.m.
If any member is interested in joining the meeting in their county, or would like more information, please contact me at [email protected] or (613) 899-9521.
Provincial Director stepping down
This year is also an important year for the four counties, as our current Provincial Director, Réjean Pommainville, is stepping down from his role and allowing someone new to take his place. Réjean has been the provincial director at the OFA Board for nine years and has represented the interests of the members of the counties of Prescott, Russell, Stormont and Glengarry during that time.
Réjean has done incredible work during his time on the Provincial Board, and I know that our four county federations, as well as I, will miss working with him on various issues. Fortunately, we have two candidates that are running for the position of Provincial Director: Vanessa Renaud and Eleanor McGrath.
Info on election to be sent by mail
Please keep your eyes out for a letter from OFA that contains more information on how the election process will be conducted as well as a bit of information from both candidates. Those should be arriving in your mailboxes in the weeks of August 9 and 16.
Also, local federations will be sending out their Annual General Meeting/Regional Meeting invitations for their county in the coming weeks. There will be more information regarding the meetings and how they will be carried out.
As always, these meetings are your chance to get your voice heard and it’s also a chance to get involved with your local federation. New directors are welcome at all times.
