Sûreté du Québec officers are intensifying their road safety enforcement activities until July 4 due to increased traffic on highways between Fête Nationale and the weekend after Canada Day.

Police will particularly target impaired driving from alcohol and/or drugs.  Speed, seat belt use and cell phone use while driving will also be among the offenses targeted by the police. Excessive speed and cell phone use while driving are the main causes of fatal collisions in Québec.

In 2020, eight fatal collisions and 313 collisions with serious injuries occurred across the territory served by the Sûreté du Québec.

Police officers urge citizens to exercise caution, in particular when planning their trips and by setting realistic deadlines in order to arrive at their destination safely, while respecting speed limits and other road safety laws.
