On Tuesday, April 20, 2021 at approximately 7:50 a.m., members of the Hawkesbury Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting the provincial border check point between Quebec and Ontario on highway 417.
A vehicle traveling from Quebec to Ontario arrived at the check point. Police investigation revealed that the driver was impaired by drugs and or alcohol. The driver was transported to the detachment for further testing. As a result of this investigation, a 27-year-old Montreal resident was arrested and charged with the following offences:
- Operating a Motor Vehicle While impaired – alcohol and drugs – Criminal Code
- Drive vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available – Cannabis Control Act
The accused was released with an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday, May 12, 2021, Ontario Court of Justice, L’Orignal. The accused’s driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days, and the vehicle towed and impounded.
