On February 25, 2021, shortly after 7:45 a.m., Russell County OPP officers responded to a traffic complaint on Clement Street in Vars where a driver was arrested.

During the investigation, the officer determined that the motorist had been consuming drugs and was impaired. The driver was transported to detachment for further testing with a Drug Recognition Expert.

As a result of the investigation, a 27-year-old man from Ottawa was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

The motorist received a 90-day driver’s license suspension, and the vehicle was also impounded for seven days.

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in L’Orignal on March 31, 2021.

Motorist charged with numerous offences

On February 28, 2021, shortly after 8:45 p.m., a Russell County OPP officer conducted a traffic stop for a Highway Traffic Act offence on Highway 417 Westbound at the Vars exit.

During the investigation, the driver was not cooperative with the officer’s demands and was subsequently arrested.

As a result of the investigation, a 47-year-old Ottawa man was charged with:

  • Failure or refusal to comply with demand
  • Obstruct Peace Officer
  • Resist Peace Officer
  • Speeding 1-49 km/h over posted speed limit

The motorist received a 90-day driver’s license suspension and the vehicle was also impounded for seven days.

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in L’Orignal on March 24, 2021.
