The number of active cases of COVID-19 across the communities served by the Eastern Ontario Health Unit (EOHU) had decreased by 24 as of Friday, January 15 to 599 cases from 623 active cases on January 14. However, there were 26 COVID-19 patients from the EOHU’s territory in hospital as of January 15 and five of those patients were in intensive care. The number of deaths resulting from COVID-19 across the area served by the EOHU remained at 42 as of January 15.

Ontario statistics
There were 2,998 new, active cases of COVID-19 across Ontario between January 14 and January 15. According to calculations based on statistics from the Ministry of Health, there were 28,825 active cases of COVID-19 across Ontario as of Friday. There were 1,647 COVID-19 patients in hospital across Ontario as of January 15. Out of those patients, 387 were in intensive care, and 280 patients were on ventilators. There had been 5,289 deaths due to COVID-19 across Ontario as of January 15, which was an increase of 100 deaths from January 14.
