The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a Hawkesbury area resident after an investigation into serious threats and harassment.

On June 21, 2020, the OPP received a complaint about threatening messages. Officers attended a campground on County Road 19 in East Hawkesbury Township to begin an investigation.

The Hawkesbury OPP Crime unit, under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch determined that an individual had been developing a plan to kill individuals. Officers arrested the accused on December 1, 2020.

A 56-year-old East Hawkesbury man has been charged under the Criminal Code with:

  • Counselling an Indictable offence which is not committed – sec. 464(a)
  • Uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm – sec. 264(1)(a) – two counts
  • Criminal harassment-threatening conduct – sec. 264(2)(d)

The accused was remanded in custody and was scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in L’Orignal on December 1, 2020.
