The Mayor of Alfred and Plantagenet Township will be the 2021 Warden of the United Counties of Prescott and Russell (UCPR).

Stéphane Sarrazin`s nomination was announced at the end of the November 25 UCPR council meeting.  According to UCPR Chief Administrative Officer Stéphane Parisien, Sarrazin was the only mayor to seek the position.

Sarrazin was elected as Mayor of Alfred and Plantagenet in 2018.  Russell Township Mayor Pierre Leroux has served as UCPR Warden in 2020.

“Congratulations Mr. Sarrazin.  I hope your year is a bit better than this year!” said Leroux, in reference to the COVID-19 pandemic which has affected the function of the UCPR government significantly during the past ten months.

Sarrazin thanked Leroux for the “excellent job” he has done during an unprecedented year and for the confidence of the other mayors on UCPR council.

The inaugural meeting where Stéphane Sarrazin will officially become UCPR Warden takes place on December 16.  The ceremonial event is usually public with a social atmosphere, but COVID-19 means that this year’s inaugural meeting will be very different with limited attendance and participation.  However, it will be livestreamed on Youtube for the public to view at   http://en.prescott-russell.on.ca/cms/One.aspx?portalId=2375205&pageId=2784663 beginning at 7 p.m. on December 16.
