Officers with the Hawkesbury Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have recovered two stolen handguns as a result of an ongoing investigation.

On August 27, 2020, shortly after 10:00 p.m., officers responded to a domestic dispute at a residence on Race Street in Hawkesbury. A male was arrested and officers recovered two handguns from the residence. These had been reported stolen from a home in the Hawkesbury area in 2017.

A 38-year old man from Hawkesbury has been charged under the Criminal Code with:

  • Assault-Spousal – sec. 266
  • Uttering threats – sec. 264.1(1)(a) – two counts
  • Forcible confinement – sec. 279(2)
  • Sexual assault – sec. 271
  • Careless storage of a firearm – 86(1) – two counts
  • Knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm – sec. 92(1) – two counts
  • Possession of a firearm obtained by crime – sec. 96(a)
  • Possession of prohibited or restricted firearm – sec 95(b)

The accused, who cannot be identified in order to protect the identity of the victim, has been remanded in custody until a scheduled appearance before the Ontario Court of Justice in L’Orignal on August 31, 2020.
