Each year the Champlain Library has engaged over 100 kids in the TD Summer Reading Club (TD SRC). It is the biggest, bilingual, inclusive summer reading program for kids of all ages. It strives to engage all children in the joy of reading, while also championing Canadian writers and illustrators. The program helps to connect families with books and to build confidence in reading.

Starting June 15, kids can register online at tdsummerreadingclub.ca (PLEASE REMEMBER TO SIGN UP WITH CHAMPLAIN LIBRARY) to access free ebooks, read a web comic and share book recommendations, jokes, silly stories and more with children across the country. Participants can also vote for their favourite summer read as two books go head-to-head each week as part of the new Battle of the Books feature. Also new this year, the Club will be offering 28 author/illustrator online readings and workshops.

In past years, the Champlain Library planned several activities each week to engage children in summer reading fun. As we all know this year has been quite different and the library has worked hard to create a program that kids can participate in from the comfort of their own home.

Some of the activities you can look forward to are take-home art/craft kits, fun virtual ‘farmyard’ story times, scavenger hunts, science activity booklets and experiments, Zoom DIY crafting evenings and wacky challenges you can do with your family. There are also prizes to be won!

This is a free program for residents of Champlain Township and East Hawkesbury as well as for any student who attends a local school. You are invited to register with the library for a full summer of entertainment, reading and fun! For more information, please visit the library’s website at bc-cl.ca.
