On May 19, Sûreté du Québec officers from the MRC d’Argenteuil detachment stopped a vehicle on Highway 50 West at the 225-kilometre mark in Grenville-sur-la-Rouge. The vehicle was travelling at a speed of 172 kilometres per hour in a 100-kilometre-per-hour zone. A 38-year-old Gatineau man was fined $1,384 and had 14 demerit points assigned to his driving record for driving at an excessive speed. His driver’s license was suspended for seven days.
On May 20 at about 7:30 p.m., police intercepted a vehicle for passing another vehicle in a dangerous way on Highway 50 at kilometre 269 on Highway 50 East, near Mirabel. The suspect passed other vehicles several times in the same way until he passed a vehicle in a double-line zone, forcing a semi-trailer onto the shoulder of the road to avoid a collision. A 48-year-old Laval man was fined $1,860 and received seven demerit points on his driving record for travelling at an excessive speed and for crossing a double line.
