The township of North Glengarry awarded resident and employee, Marius Bauer with the “Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers” on September 18 during its committee of the whole meeting. This ceremony took place on behalf of the Governor General of Canada.

Since emigrating to Canada in 2007, Marius Bauer has been active in giving back to the community through his volunteer work at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 423 in Alexandria; and with the Air Cadet League of Canada. He is also the treasurer for Alexandria 200 and a member of the Board of Directors of the Glengarry Inter-Agency Group (GIAG).

The Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers is a Canadian decoration awarded by the Governor General to honour volunteers who have made a significant and continual contribution to their community.

Bauer was presented with his medal by North Glengarry Deputy Mayor Carma Williams.

“Marius is a very deserving volunteer. He has demonstrated exceptional leadership and dedication to the Legion. The work he has done, and continues to dedicate himself to, has been of great benefit to the entire community as a whole,” said Deputy Mayor Williams.
