Highway 34 closed for 57 hours for culvert work; detours will be in place

Note that due to a culvert replacement, contractor R.W. Tomlinson Limited will be closing Highway 34 from Tannery Road (North Glengarry Twp) to Nixon Road (Champlain Township boundary) starting at 10 p.m. on Friday, July 5, 2019 and will reopen Highway 34 to one lane at 5 a.m. on Monday, July 8th, 2019.

The provincial highway reconstruction project includes the addition of drainage and intersection improvements at the Highway 34 intersection at Highway 417 Eastbound Ramp Terminal and Tannery Road (Entrance to Herb’s Travel Plaza).

The work schedule indicates that Highway 34 will be reduced to one lane on Friday, July 5 at 7 a.m., when excavation will begin, with full closure by 10 p.m. that evening. Excavation work will be finished that night.

On Saturday, July 6 during the day, box culvert units will be installed. At night on July 6, backfill work will take place for these culvert units.

On Sunday, July 7, backfilling will continue through the day and into the night, when road cut topping will take place. On Monday, July 8, the plan is to reinstate the guide rail and have a single lane of traffic open by 5 a.m.

Drivers are advised to expect delays; detours are in place as are detour indication signs and an emergency plan is also in place.
