Cougars take first game of second round

The Vankleek Hill Junior “C” Cougars started their new series in the win column, knocking off the South Grenville Rangers to take a 1-0 lead in the second round of the National Capital Junior Hockey League (NCJHL) playoffs.

On Saturday, the Cougars travelled to Spencerville to take on the Rangers in the opening game of the second round. Looking to carry through the momentum of their 11-4 series-clinching win over the Bytown Royals in the previous round, the Cougars would nab an early 2-1 lead by the end of the first. Vankleek Hill would boost their lead by one in the second to carry a 3-1 advantage into the final frame. The Rangers would manage another goal in the third but the Cougars would put up two more of their own to take the game by a final score of 5-2. Hugo Blanchard and Trystan Lavoie would put up two goals apiece, with Blanchard also adding two assists for a four-point night.

The next game of the series will take place on Tuesday, March 12 in Spencerville before the teams meet in Vankleek Hill on Wednesday, March 13 and then again on Friday, March 15.
