PERSONS TO BE IDENTIFIED
The Hawkesbury Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating a shoplifting that occurred at a store on Mill Street in Vankleek Hill.
During the investigation, the image of two (2) females, that police believe has information in the matter, was captured on video surveillance.

SHOPLIFTER ARRESTED
Hawkesbury OPP Constable Priess investigated a theft that occurred on Thursday afternoon, August 16, 2018 at a local store in Hawkesbury.
The image of a male was captured on video surveillance. Police were able to identify the person as a 19-year-old man from Salaberry-De-Valleyfield QC.
He was located and arrested by the investigating officer on Wednesday, August 26, 2018. He is charged under the Criminal Code of Canada with Theft Under $5000- Shoplifting.
He was released and scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice located in L’Orignal on September 26, 2018.

THEFT OF BOAT AND TRAILER – THIEVES NABBED IN ACTION
On Sunday night, August 26, 2018 at 10 p.m., members of the Hawkesbury OPP Detachment responded to a report of a break and enter incident at a business property in Wendover, where thieves had left the location pulling a pontoon boat on a trailer.
While heading to the scene, Hawkesbury OPP Constable Lacelle observed the suspects’ vehicle pulling the stolen pontoon on County Road 17 in Plantagenet. The suspects attempted to escape the officer but, at some point, abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot. The male passenger was immediately arrested at scene, while the male driver failed to surrender and escaped on foot. The suspect was soon after located and arrested by the OPP Canine Unit.
Investigation revealed that the driver was disqualified from driving and was in breach of several of his court conditions.
The driver, a 24-year-old male from Saint-Mathias-sur-Richelieu QC, was arrested and charged under the Criminal Code of Canada with the following sections:
– Theft Over $5000
– Fail to Comply with Probation Order (3 counts)
– Fail to Comply with Undertaking
– Possession Break In Instruments
– Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000 – in Canada
– Flight while Pursued by Peace Officer
– Driving while Disqualified – court order
– Break, Enter a place – commit indictable offence
– Dangerous Operation of Motor Vehicle
A 22-year-old male from Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu QC, was arrested and charged under the Criminal Code of Canada with the following sections:
– Theft Over $5000
– Break, Enter a place – commit indictable offence
– Possession Break In Instruments
Various break-in tools were seized from the suspects’ vehicle.
The stolen property was valued at over $50,000.
The 24-year-old was not released and kept for a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in L’Orignal on August 28, 2018.
The 22-year-old was later released and scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice located in L’Orignal on September 19, 2018.
BACK TO SCHOOL = STUDENTS WALKING AND BUSES ON THE ROAD!
Students are heading back to class and motorists should be on the lookout for students AND school buses. The Hawkesbury Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) would like to remind everyone that some school buses will be on the road this week, while the remainder will be back in service next week.
Safety is the number one priority.
Every driver, encountering a stopped school bus that has its overhead red signal-lights flashing, shall stop before reaching the bus and shall not proceed until the bus moves or the overhead red signal-lights have stopped flashing. The minimum fine for failing to stop is $400.
Many children walk to school and motorists should also be aware of the increased pedestrian traffic as children make their way to school. Many may be distracted by excitement for the first day of class. Slowdown in school zones and be extra cautious. Motorists should watch for Community Safety Zones, where speed limits are reduced and fines increased. Community safety zones are clearly marked with road signs and are found near schools.
Drivers can expect to see an increased police presence. Adjust your driving, pay attention and be prepared to stop for children and school buses. Make it safe for everyone!
