The Township of Alfred and Plantagenet held an open house event at its administrative offices on June 28. The event began at 3 p.m. with the intention to give the residents of the Municipality access to the newly expanded premises. As of 3 p.m. residents walked through the offices in the company of Council members, Mayor and employees. The organizers estimate that some two hundred people have visited the premises that afternoon. A commemorative ceremony and ribbon cutting in front of the Town Hall officially inaugurated the building.
“It is with optimization in mind that we have combined all services under the same roof,” said Mr. Fernand Dicaire, Mayor of the Township of Alfred and Plantagenet. “The municipal staff can from now on address your requests in the most complete way, and you have only one office to contact for any information.”
Expansion work of the Town Hall began in September 2017, with final touches added in June 2018. As of the date of the Open House, the cost of the renovations is $818,341. The expansion is intended to unite the majority of municipal services under one roof, offering a comprehensive service to the population.
Art was also present: the Municipality, with the assistance of the Prescott and Russell Arts Council, appealed to local artists that would like to be part of this important event for the Municipality. A dozen artists from the Township answered the call, including Rodrigue « Rod » Arsenault, Suzanne Bohay, Hélène Charbonneau, Michel Côté, Jeanne Doucet, Colette Dromaguet, Francine Jolicoeur-Séguin, Suzanne Lafrance, Carol Penny, Tina Petrovicz, Monique Simard and Leeça St-Aubin. “Do not forget that the premises of the new Town Hall are primarily your premises,” highlighted Mr. Dicaire, suggesting that the Township is open to other cultural events of this kind.
