The season is starting for cyclists, hikers, and all-terrain vehicle (ATV) riders to enjoy the Larose Forest near Limoges and Bourget.

According to the United Counties of Prescott and Russell (UCPR), which owns and manages the forest, mountain bike and hiking trails accessible from P1 and P7 parking areas were officially open as of Thursday, April 25. P1 and P7 are located on Ferdinand Lane by the Welcome Centre, north of the Clarence-Cambridge Boundary Road.

Mountain bike and hiking trails accessible from P4 parking area on County Road 8 south of Bourget remain closed indefinitely.

The UCPR closes the trails each spring season to reduce damage when the ground is wet and trails are muddy.

Meanwhile, UCPR council has agreed to let the ATV Club of Eastern Ontario (ATVCEO) establish a new trail for ATV users in the Larose Forest.

The new trail, which will follow sections of the Clarence-Cambridge Boundary Road, De La Tour Road, and County Road 8/Route 100 East, will also include a connector trail along Larose Forest Road 4. The trail will be constructed parallel to the roads and will be particularly designed to reduce ATV traffic on County Road 8.
