SUTTON, JEAN ELIZABETH (NEE MACLENNAN)
April 5, 1921 – August 6, 2017
Passed away last Sunday morning at age 96, after a long generally happy decline, at Starwood Extendicare Nursing Home with Family Support Group Palliative Companions and City View United Church Pastoral Care teams available. Predeceased by her husband, Carl York Sutton in 1988. Survived by her sons, Robert (Diane), David (Mernie) and William and by grandchildren, Kacie, Everett and Luke. Mom was the youngest and last surviving child of Duncan Dan (DD) MacLennan and Daisy Annette Vogan. Born on the farm in Glen Sandfield she moved with the family to Cornwall and then to the farm in Vankleek Hill. As a teenager she followed her sister to Montreal as a caregiver. She later worked In Ottawa and joined the St John’s Ambulance Volunteer Overseas Brigade. She voyaged to England and spent 1946 assisting with wounded servicemen. Back in Ottawa she married Carl, a returned soldier, in 1948. They raised their boys in the new suburbs of City View. As Mom declined she returned to Vankleek Hill (Heritage Lodge) before moving back to City View (Starwood). Thanks are due to both residences for compassionate care. Over the years she lost friends, family and patients, including her grandparents, parents, sisters, Evelyn, Kathleen and Winnifred and brothers, Darwin, Hector and Thomas. A final patient was husband Carl. Managing his passing at home was perhaps her greatest achievement. Friends paid their respects at the Capital Funeral Home & Cemetery 3700 Prince of Wales Drive 613-692-1211 on Saturday, August 12, 2017. Funeral Service followed in the Chapel. Interment Capital Memorial Gardens. In memoriam donations (in lieu of flowers) to the Family Support Group, 114 Starwood Rd, Nepean, ON K2G 3N5 are appreciated.
