Olmstead, Captain Vaughn Edward, of Hawkesbury, aged 89 years, went peacefully to his Saviour on Wednesday, November 4, 2020. Born in Corning, NY, a son of the late Rev. Claude and Hazel Casey Olmstead, Vaughn grew up in several locations in the U.S. and Canada before joining the RCMP in which he served for 4-1/2 years. He then resigned and became a bush pilot and later an airline pilot, retiring from Canadian Airlines International in 1990 off the Boeing 767. Vaughn was a dedicated, delightful husband, father and Christian church-member who gave generously of his time to others, and enjoyed flying his PA-12, and loved family, church and aviation-community life. He was predeceased by his first wife Dorothy Taylor, son Eric and infant brother Robert. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Waugh-Olmstead, his son Phillip, daughter-in-law Katherine, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, brother James (Ruth) and David (Elizabeth). A private Family Service was held on Tuesday, November 10, 2020 at 1:00 pm at the Vankleek Hill Baptist Church, officiated by Pastor Scott Sadlier. The committal will be at a later date in Port Wade, NS. In memory of Vaughn, donations may be made to the Gideons or the Vankleek Hill Baptist Church.
